Lent 2022 - Week 6 Thursday

Week 6 – Thursday
Self-Compassion IN ACTION
It will take some practice to get in the habit of being kind to yourself.

Practice #4: Three great questions to ask yourself.
When you find a self-critical thought running through your brain, ask yourself…

IS IT TRUE?
Much of what we think is opinion or judgement – it isn’t “true” in the sense that it’s a fact everyone would agree on or it could be scientifically proven. You don’t HAVE to believe it.

IS IT HELPFUL?
Even if there is some truth to the thought, it’s worth replacing if it’s not serving you in any way.

IS IT KIND?
If you repeatedly said this to a friend, would they still want to be your friend? If not, then it’s not kind to say it to yourself either.

Give it a try for a few days.
I would love to know your experience of this practice.
Did asking the questions shift how you felt?

It does take work to break the self-criticizing habits of a lifetime, but at the end of the day, you are only being asked to relax, allow life to be as it is, and open your heart to yourself. It’s easier than you might think, and it could change your life.
