Lent 2022 - Week 5 Tuesday
Week 5 - Tuesday
Embracing Self-Compassion
Sometimes you need to start small and work your way up.
Self-Compassion is: Not about living your life with rose colored glasses.
It’s acknowledging your suffering & being kind instead of critical.
Compassion Practice: Add a “but” or an “and” to all the critical thoughts.
If you’ve spend years criticizing your body, it’s not going to be believable to look in the mirror and tell yourself that you’re sexy and beautiful and madly in love with yourself. But you could work up to something close to that.
START BY not accepting the critical thoughts as truth. Every time you have one, redirect that thought to something more affirming with an “and” or a “but” statement.
EXAMPLES
I hate my thighs BUT I have functioning legs and I appreciate that.
I hate being overweight AND if I choose to lose weight, being kind to myself will make it easier.
I really messed up AND all humans mess up; I can learn from it and move on.
What do you think? Let me know in the comments.
Have you ever tried adding an “and” or a “but” to your critical thoughts?
