Week 2 - Tuesday
Releasing Self-Doubt
If you’re queer and Christian, you might doubt your inclusion.
Self-Doubt is: Thinking you might not be welcomed by God.
Wondering if you should take communion or baptism or…
Silence it: Check your theology because this is just bad theology!
What is theology anyway?
It’s the study of the nature of God and religious belief.
There is biblical theology, historical theology, systematic theology, practical theology…and BAD theology. The Bible is not a novel; it’s a collection of writings. If you simply take every word literally, you aren’t taking the Bible seriously.
For example, when you read the Bible without taking into consideration the historical and cultural contexts or the type of writing (history, poetry, etc.) or you take a verse out of the context of the writing before and after it, you are in danger of creating bad theology.
Volumes have been written on why being queer is NOT a sin, why we are loved by God as much as anyone else, why no one should be excluded from the Lord’s Supper, etc.
I cannot do justice to this topic in a short post, but I can summarize it for you…
There is no doubt about the fact that you are welcome.
There is no doubt about the fact that you are loved.
There is no doubt that you are a beautiful creation.
Let me know what you think in the comments.
How has bad theology created self-doubt within you?
